Baccarat
Baccarat is a fairly easy game to play and is played with either six or eight decks. Two hands are dealt with one hand designated as the "BANK" hand and the other the "PLAYER" hand. Each hand receives two cards, and possibly a third. The hand with the highest score wins. You may bet on the Bank hand, the Player hand, or on a Tie.
The total of a hand is calculated by adding the values
of the two or three cards. If the total is ten or more,
the score is reduced by ten. The result is a score between
zero and nine. The Ace through 9 count as their face value.
Face cards and 10s count as zero. The hand with the highest
total closest to 9 wins.
Example: Ace, King and 6 will equal 1 + 0 + 6 = 7.
The maximum number of cards in a Baccarat hand is three.
There are several rules for the Player or Bank to be dealt
a third card.
If either the Player or the Bank have a total of 8 or 9
on the first two cards no further cards are drawn. The resulting
hand is called a natural and the hand is over.
If the Player's total is less than or equal to 5 the Player's
hand draws a third card.
If the Player does not draw a third card, then the Bank's
hand stands on 6 or more and takes a third card on a total
of 5 or less. If the Player does take a third card then
the Banker's third-card-rule will determine if the Bank
takes a third card.
If the Bank's total is 2 or less then Bank draws a card,
regardless of the Players third card.
If the Banks total is 3 then the Bank draws a third card
unless the Players third card was an 8.
If the Banks total is 4 then the Bank draws a third card
unless the Players third card was a 0, 1, 8, or 9.
If the Banks total is 5 then the Bank draws a third card
if the Players third card was 4, 5, 6, or 7.
If the Banks total is 6 then the Bank draws a third card
if the Players third card was a 6 or 7.
If the Banks total is 7 then the Bank stands.
You start playing by placing a bet on either the Player,
the Bank or a Tie. Some casinos will let you place another
bet on Tie as a side bet when you bet on either the Player
or the Bank. Maximum and minimum bets varies from casino
to casino. Please check.
When you win your bet you will win the amount of your bet
less a commission. The commission is generally 5%, but it
can vary from casino to casino so please check.
Example: You bet $100 on the Player hand. The Player hand
holds Ace and 8 and the Bank hand holds King and 8. The
Player hand would win because 9 is greater than 8. You will
get $195. $100 is your original bet and the $95 is your
winnings less the 5% commission. If you bet on the Tie,
you win 8 times your bet.
Example: Both Player and Banker have cards totaling 6 and
your Tie bet is $100. You win $800.
